#team17inventingtomorrow @HubBayArea with Leroy Merlin on Wednesday

Humans need sleep, and sometimes also moments of mindfulness retreat in themselves. Leroy Merlin Team 17’s expedition to Invent the Future is so densely packed with incredible encounters that I could not fulfill my promise (made to myself) to report every night what happened on the day before…
From my hotel room, in the very early hours of Friday morning I’ve to report on the experience of visiting the Hub in Berkeley on Wednesday.

It is situated at the Brower Center. What an inspiring and rich environment to create this co-working space, where entrepreneurs who want to radically change the world find their haven for working, net-working and getting support and inspiration…

It showed yet another facet of what’s happening for inventing the future. Jeffrey, see below, impressed our team members yet again by his capacity, despite his young age, to clearly share the spirit and philosophy of his hub, the other hubs of the Bay area, and the World Hub Movement … And the team was lucky to hear firsthand the opening of a 12.000 sq foot extension of the Berkeley Hub facility in the days to come…

Thank you Jeffrey, young people in action… In should say, people with youth in their hearts in action, since the hub is open to anyone who is serious of changing the World, Inventing the Future…

How We Started

Hub Bay Area is part of a family of social enterprises focused on supporting innovative ideas for a radically better world. Three years ago, Kevin Jones and Tim Freundlich founded Good Capital – a Bay Area investment firm that increases the flow of capital to social ventures that address inequality and poverty. A community of passionate entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, funders, activists, and community leaders emerged around Good Capital. This momentum soon translated into the creation of the Social Capital Markets Conference . SoCap brings together the broad ecosystem of funders, foundations, and individual investors/donors with for-profit and non-profit entrepreneurs who use business to make change.

The Hub was a contributor to the first SoCap Conference in 2008 and there was an instant alignment of ideas. In December 2008, a partnership was created and Hub Bay Area was born. Our intention is to create a series of Hubs over the next few years throughout the Bay Area to support local social innovators build and scale their solutions for change.

Together, the emerging communities surrounding Good Capital, SoCap, and The Hub are building the social economy one brick at a time. Come visit us at our first location at the David Brower Center in Berkeley to see what we’re creating!

About charlesvanderhaegen

I am a grandfather of an immensely inspiring family, thanks to the most incredible wife. To satisfy my family's needs, I was for 30 years business entrepreneur, roller coasting between success and failure. 17 years ago I was forced to stop and reflect. I dug into theory and discovered the World out there, that my involvement in Business had kept hidden to me. I feared that I will not escape remaining amidst my trans-disciplinary quest forever, bouncing back and forth from action to theory, always puzzled by Europe's apparent incapacity to free itself from its Institutional/Technological Lock-ins. My horizon opened up when Gunter Pauly, my intimate friend of 35 years, asked me to join him and take charge ZERI's development in Europe. I am now fully engaged alongside Gunter Pauli in the http://www.zeri.org and the @myblueeconomy Networks as CEO of ZERI.EU vzw (Non for Profit association)
