Thursday with #Team17InventingTomorrow from Leroy Merlin

I changed somewhat the style of reporting, so please find it hereafter…

Thursday on the road to San José with #Team17Inventingtomorrow from Leroy Merlin

I cannot really keep pace with my reporting of this incredible “Discovery” expedition…

I have to shorten and change somewhat my reporting style… And it reminds me of Howard Rheingold MindAmp Class… especially the reading “Blogging as a Reflexive Practice”.

This expedition has not only made me celebrate my 65th Anniversary very far from home, which I feel guilty about. It also made me abandon my co-learning Friends at the MindAmp 3 Class, for which I also have feelings of guilt…

Now I console myself with the promise I make to catch up and share my incredible learning, gained on this expedition. So my beloved at Home, and my friends co-learners… I’ll soon be back. I will be another person: it is impossible not to change when confronted with so many impressions shared in a powerful learning Team that Team 17 has become.

Very briefly then before launching myself in Day 5 of our team’s exploration. Yesterday was the transition day from San Francisco to San José. But we were not idly sleeping in the couch… No, already at 9 AM we went into Home Depot, everyone of us with a different strategy to discover what we could from the most powerful DIY retail business in the World… I choose to act as a curious customer, bought some tools, asked a lot of questions, probed the service mindedness of the employees… A great experience whose reporting during the trip to the next step of our day journey provoked some flabbergasted reactions from my team mates…

Next stop Loews, where we met the whole local management team…. Q&A session, leader to leader exchange. It could not have been more genuine. This is not the place, and it is certainly not my role to disclose anything about this “peer-to-peer encounter” save that it added impressions on impressions and provided the Team Members with invaluable insights.

A 25 minutes seated excellent lunch, with Loews staff – more that 20 people -  at an excellent Italian gastromic restaurant is possible in Silicon Valley… Incredible

Then from 1.30 PM to 6.30 PM at Cisco… Yet another discovery, and lots of insights around Human Resource Management, the impact of technology on Retail, the impact of technology on collaboration, a visit to the displays of the very latest technologies in beta test, and some other experiences… Other insights, other impressions, other material to add to our harvest to Invent the Future…

Not really neutral, it made me think of my friends developing and applying the Theory of Plural Rationalities also called Theory of Socio-Cultural Viability… My insight is that it is really Socio-Cultural Viability that is at stake. Michael, I will need to visit you in Bath very soon, too long that we saw each other and exchanged about the way we can add our contributions to a world in deep change

And then, the evening dinner/barbecue in the house of a Chilean couple in San José … the encounter with Stanford Entrepreneurs… magic happened, too much magic to not report seriously about it and to honor our guest of an evening…

But I have no time, I need to be at the debrief at 8.30, and I need to take forces to start this last day before the “Great Debrief”. It will no doubt be magic again

About charlesvanderhaegen

I am a grandfather of an immensely inspiring family, thanks to the most incredible wife. To satisfy my family's needs, I was for 30 years business entrepreneur, roller coasting between success and failure. 17 years ago I was forced to stop and reflect. I dug into theory and discovered the World out there, that my involvement in Business had kept hidden to me. I feared that I will not escape remaining amidst my trans-disciplinary quest forever, bouncing back and forth from action to theory, always puzzled by Europe's apparent incapacity to free itself from its Institutional/Technological Lock-ins. My horizon opened up when Gunter Pauly, my intimate friend of 35 years, asked me to join him and take charge ZERI's development in Europe. I am now fully engaged alongside Gunter Pauli in the http://www.zeri.org and the @myblueeconomy Networks as CEO of ZERI.EU vzw (Non for Profit association)
