The Pacific’s wayward child

THE DROUGHT afflicting California—now heading into its third year—has taken a turn for the worse. It seems that 2014 is shaping up to be the driest in nearly a…

Interesting read…

It immediately reminds me of Pierre Wack’s scenario work at Shell… The two seminal articles in Harvard Business Review are really worth reading again :

"Unchartered Waters Ahead" (Sept-Oct) and "Shooting the Rapids" (Nov-Dec) both in 1985

I believe Pierre Wack’s work can inspire us in the profound turbulent times we are in now.

His ideas, and his work were very unconventional, so much so that his work was bureaucratized after his leaving Shell, and transformed into a mere method without impact… and Shell became what it is now…(By the Way, what is Shell?)

Don’t blindly rely on people who have translated what was a way of thinking, interacting, awareness rising, bringing outside inside, and inside outside… a living system of interaction and thinking into a method, a management fad, a revenue stream for consultants and a carreer path towards the top for ambitious managers…

Pierre allowed Shell to briefly see a glow of light, but even within Shell, what Pierre Wack lighted up, with such success, very quickly faded away after he left the company…

Let’s search for his spirit in reading these articles again, and let’s actualize these ideas with what science have learned us since 1985, and that is Huge

About charlesvanderhaegen

I am a grandfather of an immensely inspiring family, thanks to the most incredible wife. To satisfy my family's needs, I was for 30 years business entrepreneur, roller coasting between success and failure. 17 years ago I was forced to stop and reflect. I dug into theory and discovered the World out there, that my involvement in Business had kept hidden to me. I feared that I will not escape remaining amidst my trans-disciplinary quest forever, bouncing back and forth from action to theory, always puzzled by Europe's apparent incapacity to free itself from its Institutional/Technological Lock-ins. My horizon opened up when Gunter Pauly, my intimate friend of 35 years, asked me to join him and take charge ZERI's development in Europe. I am now fully engaged alongside Gunter Pauli in the and the @myblueeconomy Networks as CEO of ZERI.EU vzw (Non for Profit association)
